Massage of deep tissue versus Swedish massage - What's the difference?

Before deciding on what we would like to use, we often tend to imagine how each massage therapy could be like when we go through the list of services offered at a spa. Often as the name is very fascinating, we end up using a random massage. Ultimately, we conclude after the massage in Al Barsha that all massages are the same. In fact, however, each massage is different from the other and each massage has its own advantages.

Let's learn the difference between deep tissue massage and Swedish massage.

A form of massage that utilises firm pressure on the muscles is Swedish massage. A series of long gliding strokes are also involved. This massage uses different essential oils that have different aromatic benefits, and these oils also help reduce friction.

Swedish massage improves the circulation of blood in the muscles, which relieves body tension and improves flexibility. It stimulates the skin and nervous system, soothing the nerves and reducing physical, mental and emotional stress.

The application of five strokes involves a Swedish massage, namely:

1. Effleurage - Long flowing strokes that enable the therapist to spread the body oils and feel the tone of the muscle.

2. Petrissage - Kneading strokes that lift the tissues and squeeze them, flushing out the area's metabolic waste.

3. Friction - A form of stroke involving rapid short movements that generate heat in the region that brings blood flow to that area. This assists in the ligaments being loosened.

4. Tapotement - This stroke is commonly referred to as the move of the karate chop,' which involves a series of light blows to the body that help to relax the muscles.

5. Vibration - In the entire body, this stroke creates movement. When done correctly, the results are very reassuring.

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of massage designed to target the deep tissue structure of the muscles of the body. This massage is primarily focused on the connective tissues.

Deep tissue massage allows small muscle injuries and chronic problems to recover quickly. This massage is an excellent way to cope with injuries from sports, postural misalignment, spasms and muscle tension treatment. Specific chronic muscle tension, such as muscle knots and adhesions, can also be released.

A series of slow, specific, and deliberate strokes are involved in this massage, which is best for postural deviations and abnormal muscle tone. Depending on the type of muscle that they are working on the therapist here applies several different strokes. The muscles will slowly begin to loosen up during this massage, allowing the therapist to move along.
